Kandi Sterling showed horses in California for twenty years before moving back to Virginia and has trained under some of the best. She rode both western and hunt seat and was lucky enough to have ridden and shown some good ones. Some of the horsemen she rode under were Jimmy Williams, trainer of Olympic riders, Medal Finals winners and many times named of the ASHA Horseman of the Year, was a hunter/jumper trainer. Jimmy is in the Jump Rider Hall of Fame and trained over twenty top trainers. Mac McHugh, was a founding member of the Professional Horseman's Association in California and had more Pacific Coast Hunter, Jumper, Stock Horse Association high point winners than we could list on this website. There is now a medal competition in his name. Harold Farren, was an early trainer for the movies. He and his father trained horses for Ben Hur, Circus, Circus, and many other blockbusters. Harold holds the record of having trained ten ASHA Stock Saddle Seat Medal winners, and he was indeed a trainer's trainer ~ having trained more OTHER trainers than any other western trainer (Jimmy Williams holds that record for hunter/jumpers). Bill Martin is a trainer and judge well known from California to Texas for stock horses, reined cow horses, and cutting horses. Kandi qualified and rode in three ASHA Medal finals, has shown and trained a number of high point winners, and has successfully shown western, hunt, saddle seat, Tennessee Walkers, Arabians, and has even shown and won in side saddle classes and driving! She is a talented and versatile horsewoman who was trained in the classic European style. She was a teacher for many years, so she works well with young people. She was a sorority adviser, and has done family counseling, so her teaching techniques are aimed at teaching life lessons in a positive manner. She completely enjoyed raising her four children, who are now grown.
Tammy Sterling has a love of teaching and a gift for horses. Tammy started riding at a very early age and has ridden Arabians, Tennessee Walking Horses, TBs, warmbloods and of course Quarter Horses. She started tutoring math when she was still in High School, and continues even today. A gifted and trained dancer, Tammy performed in a production company and was twice nominated to Governor's School in the field of dance. As a horsewoman, Tammy has competed successfully for many years. Tammy and Music and Small Talk are familiar winners on the low jumper circuit and seldom fail to put on a thrilling performance. Tammy has also shown a number of our green hunters over the years, giving them a good start in their new careers. Tammy runs our camp programs and most of our lesson programs where her enthusiasm and patience make learning fun for new riders.
