Hidden
Creek is a family run farm where much care is taken with our horses and farm
management. All of our horses are bedded in stalls, on mats with sawdust milled
right here in Ruckersville.
When
the stalls are cleaned, the mixture of horse manure, sawdust and a small amount
of grass is moved to the compost pile, where it is stored and turned until
it reaches the proper temperature, then aged until it is ready for use.

Our
compost is 100 % organic, nothing artificial has been added. Unlike cattle
and chicken, our horses are not on regular antibiotics, steroids, growth hormones,
or any other artificial products.
We
also offer a special mixture to keep plants hydrated. Polymer gels developed
for agricultural act as tiny crystals that swell with water when it is
plentiful, helping to protect plants from flooding and experiencing shock
from rapid soil run off. The crystals then hold the excess water, gradually
releasing it to the plants over a long period of time, maintaining a level
of moisture in the soil. For many years these polymer crystals have been
used to make crops more drought resistant.

Because there is virtually no odor, our Horse Compost may be used
indoors or outside, near windows and around the home.
Start plants in the spring, grow an indoor herb garden, use as potting
soil for indoor plants. Horse compost is nutritional enough to promote
growth, but mild enough for tender young seedlngs
|
Use
for window boxes, hanging planters, patio pots or planters along the
house. Again, because there is no odor, open windows will not bring
in unpleasantness but plants will thrive with nutrients.
Use
for gardens. Mix with soil to enhance drainage in clay soils, to retain
water in sandy soils. Organic horse compost helps plants thrive.
