KEY TO SYMBOLS:  Here are a few quick "cartoons" to set off the outstanding qualities of some of our horses.  Just because a horse doesn't have a certain symbol doesn't mean he DOESN'T have the quality, but when he DOES have the symbol it is because the trait is OUTSTANDING in that horse.

Apollo, 15.2h, 8yrs, draft cross

This is the BMW of horses.  Broke enough for anyone, quiet, sound and reliable.  He has the looks and the style to do anything.  Lots of trail miles, he rides western, English in a snaffle or a curb. He is 1/4 draft and has the best of all traits about him.

Apollo neck reins, has great steering and good brakes.  He is responsive without being goosy.  There's just a LOT of good training and quality miles on this guy.  He has extremely comfortable gaits.  Started over fences and very willing, this horse has a lot of turn and a lot of leg.

Diaz - 8yrs, Egyptian Arabian, papers are lost

We found this nice gelding and the Selle Francais mare in a pasture where they had been for several years.  Their owner didn't even HAVE a saddle any longer and had a family emergency which was requiring her to move.  We were delighted when we rode them!!  This guy went right off like he had been ridden every day!!  He's a little soft and out of condition, but he is willing and wants to work.  He is priced right because he isn't what we normally handle, but he is great.

NOTE ON COLOR:  I've had a couple of people ask about the marks on his right shoulder and neck. - It is a typical color and marking pattern for Arabians and this information comes right off of an Arabian site on color and genetics.  The Marshusha color is more prone to the "bloody marks" and they come up earlier than in a steel grey............  Another form of grey is the fleabitten in which small flecks of color are viewed throughout the coat. These flecks are usually reddish but can sometimes be black or both. These colored flecks in no way represent the base color of the horse. Desert Name-Marshusha......Bloody marks are distinctive large reddish patches on a grey horse that increase in size as the horse ages. They are independent of both background color and greying phases. Rarely, in a very aged horse, this coloration could appear uniformly red. This phenomenon appears to be a reversal of the greying process.

Great gelding has been used for lessons and ridden on the trail.  He jumps QUIETLY and is a dependable horse doing everything from 4-H to fieldwork, from a husband horse to a great local show horse.

Big body, has about 1/4 draft and a wonderful temperament!  Look at those ears, he loves his work and is willing to be a working partner for any level rider.  Great gaits, easy to get along with and an all around fantastic find.

Tommy, 15.3h, 10yrs, draft cross

Great Black and White Paint Draft Cross, quiet and calm, very responsive.  Has some jumping ability, he has miles and miles of trail experience.  The people who owned him used him for paid trail rides and he carried all comers.  We brought him home and one of our riders fell in love with him.  She had him leased until her husband was transferred and they moved to Austria!

Tommy has great steering and good brakes.  He is responsive without being goosy.  He has extremely comfortable gaits and is like riding a recliner.  Not at all as bullish as many draft crosses, he is good with children.

Cutter, 15h, 8 yrs

Great horse with a lot of training.  He's been shown successfully in Western Pleasure and done a lot of trail rides.  He has smooth, quiet gaits, a great head carriage and natural frame.  He goes where you want him to go, and anyone can ride him.  Quiet and willing, great manners, wonderful attitude.  I've ridden him sliding down banks, up the center of a stream, and scrambling up a bank that didn't really have a path.  He goes where you point him!

This horse had AQHA papers but they are no longer available.  It's easy to see the quality and he will ride western or English, show, carry the kids, do pony rides or go on the trail.  Willing to go forward, but very attentive to the rider, he moves quietly and a little lazy for small children, or riders without confidence but will move on nicely with a rider who has the balance to ask for it.  Fantastic gaits quiet jog, will move out to a nice posting trot, very collected canter.

If you need a confidence builder, this is the guy.

Chicken Thief, Jockey Club, 2002, 16.2h

This guy came to us in rough condition.  His career started as a very mediocre race horse.  He was then used as a trail horse at Grave's Mountain.  He doesn't have a lot of sophistication in his training, but he wants to please and has an outstanding temperament.  None of the TB spook or flightiness, this guy will carry any rider.

We are working with him and he wants to please.  He is always good natured and is rapidly aquiring more polish.  He is a beautiful flat kneed mover and wants to respond and frame.  We are impressed with how quick he learns.  We've started him over fences and he is athletic enough to be good at it.

Watch for more photos as he improves in condition and training.

This guy and Poseidon (the one below) have lived together for many years.  They belonged to a husband and wife who rode together on a regular basis.  They are great trail horses and Eros has some very nice training.  Fantastic gaits, good handle, neck reins.  He goes through water and is willing to take on new tasks such as the cavalitties.

Eros was the wife's horse and he is very quiet and solid.  He has smooth gaits and a good mind.  It wouldn't take much to frame him up and work basic dressage.

Rum Runner (Captain), 16.2h, 5yrs

Captain is a great TB gelding, with some good miles on him.  He's quiet enough to be used for lessons, note two different students on him.  He's a willing worker with good manners and likes people.

Tammy had this guy for a year, showed him in jumper shows, and just isn't riding him enough right now to justify keeping him.  He is well started over fences and jumps 3+ ft.  He has good turns on the course and but isn't chargie.  He would make a great starter jumper who could go on to be a real winner.  I had some great shots of him at shows, but when my external hard drive crashed I lost all of the pictures of him ...the one above was at a starter show and happened to be on the website!!

Poseidon, 15.1, 8yrs

This big, stylish Percheron X Quarter cross is the stable mate of Eros (Above).  He has a lot of trail miles and good sense.  This guy is a great mover and would make a nice dressage or field hunter.  We've put him at a couple of small fences and he seems to enjoy it and have some athletic ability.  Now all we need is to get the ground in the round pen dry enough to give him some lessons.  He has a beautiful head and neck and a natural frame.  A great broad back and a big spring of rib which means that this guy may not be tall, but he can carry any human who can get on a horse!!  Just look at how much of Chip's leg is taken up with the big body.

The more we work this guy, the more we like him.  He is VERY sensitive and responsive.  The other day Chip was cantering him and had pushed him up into a little speed.  (He has a BEAUTIFUL collected canter.) Chip said "easy" and the horse visibly took off speed and went back to collected canter.  We went on a trail ride and not only did he go through water, he came back and dragged Cayman down the side of the creek and didn't even mind when Cayman (Who isn't small) leaped up the far bank and landed on him.  This guy is big enough that he just planted his feet and let Cayman bounce off him.

He has a good personality and enjoys life.  Look at his ears in every photo.   He is easy to ride, but has a little too much motor for a beginner rider.  For someone with a little horse experience, he is a LOT of fun.

Beautiful color and nice temperament.  He isn't sophisticated and needs some miles, but he can become a GREAT little hunter or trail horse for a large child or small amateur.   We've put lessons on him and he is always safe.

This guy was raised and trained by a young rider who used him mostly on the trail.  The ring is something new for him, but he has no vices and is safe and is adapting quickly.  We enjoy working with him, he's fun, learns quickly, and retains what he learns.  We've started him over fences and he enjoys it.  Mainly he needs leg and frame work.

Hermes, 15.1h, 9 yrs, 1/4 Draft

THIS is a beginner horse.  He will carry any rider you can put up on him, he never spooks, he doesn't mind if they are off balance, and he doesn't care if they grip with their heels or bounce in the seat.  Great beginner family horse, husband horse, guest horse or kids horse.  If you can't ride this one, you need to be on the horse in front of Wal-Mart.

A little lazy, he WILL canter on the trail, but it takes a little effort on the part of the rider...so he will never run off.  He isn't used to working in the ring and he is still a little difficult to get to canter in the ring.  We've used him to evaluate riders, to He is a FANTASTIC starter horse, family horse, or for a timid rider.  Look up "confidence builder" in the dictionary and you will find his photo.  He has comfortable gaits and a solid attitude.  This guy will go where you point him without any flap or concern.

Stout, old fashion style body and a good mind!!  It's hard to get good photos of bays this time of year, especially with our ring in shadows, but you can see this guy has a big hip, a short back and a kind attitude.  He's been a trail horse in TN, done a lot of overnight rides and lots of trail miles, but needs miles in the ring. He's always been ridden western, but he went off English in the ring without a problem, stayed on the rail and took both leads.  Good for beginner's, he is EXCELLENT on the trail.

We took him down the back side of our farm the other day, with one of our students on him, and he was PERFECT.  It's pretty rough going and they have to slide down banks to get to the two creek crossings.  Carlo was a champ!

Bombay, 15.2h, 2000 gelding - draft X

We used this horse for lessons and in camp last summer and everyone loved him.  He has tons of personality, smooth gaits, and a solid attitude.  He jumps willingly and is brave at fences.  He goes out on the trail and works school patterns in the ring without fault.

After camp we sold him to an adult rider, who now has personal problems and must sell him.  He is here on consignment, but we are happy to represent him.  He has complete health records and has done his job for the year she has owned him and been popular at the barn with help, horses, trainers, and other clients.  He's gone out alone or with a group of riders and has always been a gentleman.

Cayman (Cool Skippen Bueno), 16.3h, 2003 gelding

This is an outstanding AQHA gelding, solid as a rock, no spook, great gaits.  Lots of trail miles and yet easy enough to ride for lessons.  Great school patterns.  Cayman will pack ANYONE!

He is that rare combination of the horse that will rider forward when you ask him, and he has leg, but he isn't oversensitive.  He isn't lazy, but he has no intention of running off and he waits to figure out what the rider wants before he makes a move.

Although he has never jumped, he shows a lot of aptitude and we are starting him over fences.  He is smart and wants to please and I think he will be a solid jumper in a very short time.

Floyd, 14.2h 2002 sorrel gelding

Floyd is the best buy on the property.  When he came here he had belonged to the same family all his life.  They had his mom, they raised him as a foal and broke him to ride.  The kids grew up and moved away, and he hadn't been ridden in almost a year when I bought him.  He didn't know much, but he was sweet.  He had never seen any place like a big barn, a stall, cross ties and the activity of a training barn...and at first he was terrified.  But he has learned to work well, to wear a bridle, and now he frames up and looks good.  These photos are all old, I need to get some new ones, because he really looks fancy, but he's a plain old country horse at heart.

He rides well, likes people, works for any level rider, and tries to please.  He's learned a lot and is very willing.  He's been a trail horse his whole life, but he's learned to work in a ring.  He'll stay inside, go out in a pasture, We used him some in camp, he is tolerant of riders stands well for mounting.  He'll crawl into your heart.  He isn't herd bound (He canters right past the other horses, they can come and go and it doesn't bother him.) and he has three good gaits.  He's a little a great guy who enjoys his work.

Watermark (See You Real Soon) TB, 2001 dark bay gelding

This stylish gelding has a lot of potential.  He is owned by Chip MacVeagh who is pictured on other horses on the website.  Chip's been riding this guy for a couple of months and is very excited about him.  Watermark has a lot of potential, is very athletic and sensible although he isn't for a beginner rider.  He has no bad vices and just needs a routine to develop his talent into a great competitor.  He's a pretty mover and very intelligent and willing to learn.

Foaled in KY, nominated for the Breeders Cup, raced at Colonial Downs but papers are market "Not For Racing" due to disputes over money owed, not because the horse had any health problems. He raced lightly.

This horse belongs to Chip McViegh and he is the only rider, so if you are interested in Watermark, please let us know ahead of time so we can schedule it with Chip....or call Chip directly at (540) 270-3282
